Sigma Xi Grant Award Winner: Dillon Berger

Congratulations to Dillon Berger, who was awarded a Sigma XI Grant in Aid of Research for a project on modeling the signatures of low mass black holes in galaxies under the direction of Professor Satyapal. This is a very competitive grant with only 15% being awarded and he received $800 in support of this research.

APS/IBM Research Internship

APS and IBM co-sponsor two undergraduate research internship programs;
one for undergraduate women and one for underrepresented minorities.
The application deadline for both programs is February 15, 2016. The

The Naval Research Enterprise Internship Programs provides an opportunity for students to be able to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer.

PhD Student and Comets

The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory discovered its 3,000th comet on September 13, 2015.

In charge of the Sungrazer Project funded by NASA is Karl Battams, a scientist at NRL (U.S. Naval Research Laboratory) and is doing a PhD with a concentration in Space Weather at GMU.
